A multicultural cookery project especially for women.
Throughout spring and summer 2012 we will be holding a series of workshops where women can learn multi cultural cooking recipes.
Prepare and share their favorite dishes from different cultural traditions
Exchange recipes and tips about healthy eating
Learn about the use of spices and take samples for use at home
Find out about how food can be used in creative designs
Help plan and design a multicultural cookery book
Workshops will be FREE including childcare, transport and ingredient costs.
At the end of the project all women who have taken part will receive a free recipe book.
The purpose of this project is to record the personal stories of migrant women in Sunderland who have moved to Sunderland over the years and to explore how they have shaped the identity of the city through their own cultural traditions. The project will encourage women from under-represented groups, including women of all ages and women of diaspora, to engage with their heritage, learn new skills and participate in cultural and creative activities. The project will record and celebrate the significant contribution of these women to the city of Sunderland, preserving an important and unique aspect of our local history.
Various themes will be explored through this project such as: migration, identity, aspects of women’s lives in public sphere including employment, involvement in local politics, economic contribution through establishing businesses, securing professional roles as well as women’s role at home.
